Instead of bulldozing pre-existing barns, homes, sheds and porches, Finger Lakes ReUse offers deconstruction services. It’s a green-minded alternative to demolition that takes apart structures board-by-board, tile-by-tile with the goal of reusing and recycling as many materials as possible. We will be following the process from deconstruction, to the Finger Lakes ReUse store where fixtures and items from deconstruction sites are re-sold, to the new, re-imagined spaces these recycled materials help create. Along the way, we’ll be talking to folks wielding hammers and demolition companies who have recently been required to follow certain recycling regulations.
Deconstruction is an arduous process, and in our minds it represents a commitment to sustainability in its purest form — taking the old apart and reimagining something new. We will strip the meaning of sustainability down to its bare bones, following the history of these structures and the men and women who take the old, and make it new again.
